Prof. Tsvi Piran, working with a group of other researchers, decoded the mechanism for gamma-ray bursts following an eruption observed last January. Now, in a paper published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, he describes how a stream of particles moving toward us at close to light speed emits the gamma radiation.

Given the remarkable developments in quantum information we have initiated at the Hebrew university a distinguished lecture series by world leaders, geared to a wide interested scientific audience and including a tuturial for non experts preceeding the main talk. The talks will alternate between physics and computer science experts, and will be followed by a nice reception.

Two Rosenblum awards are given each year to graduate students or postdocs working in Gravitation. The awards are given during the years' Rosenblum lecture that takes place in Memory of Prof. Arnold Rosenblum, an internationally known theoretical physics from Utah who has worked on Gravitation. The awards were donated by Mrs. Dorothy Rosenblum, Arnold's mother after his premature death at the age of 46.
