"String Theory of the Regge Intercept":
In this talk we use the effective theory of the relativistic string worldvolume to compute the mass of a spinning string in D dimensions with large angular momentum J, up to and including first subleading order in the large J expansion. We will introduce certain technical developments of the covariant-gauge formalism that make the calculation more convenient. We give special attention to the renormalization of the boundary Lagrangian for the case of open strings with Neumann boundary conditions, and we demonstrate that the order $J^0$ term in the mass-squared is universal. This computation constitutes a first-principles derivation of the asymptotic intercept of the leading Regge trajectory of planar QCD with massless bosonic quarks
