Abstract:
Hydrodynamics has been recently recasted in
terms of an effective action for Goldstone
fields. In this talk I will show how to derive the
dissipationless effective action for conformal
fluids from holography. I will argue how such a
construction might be unconsistent at
subleading order in a hydrodynamic expansion
unless dissipative effects are included. This can
be achieved by a coupling to a membrane
paradigm-type boundary condition to which I
will provide limits of validity.
