Abstract:
The recent discovery of the Higgs boson
at CERN was a great victory for the
Standard Model of particle physics. In
my talk, I will discuss how excitations
that are analogous to the Higgs boson
exist in condensed matter and cold
atomic systems. I will review the
existing evidence for such Higgs-like
excitations in systems including
superconductors, superfluids,
antiferromagnets, and solids, and I will
speculate about what these findings
may teach us about particle physics.
