Abstract:
The dramatic announcement by the LIGO
collaboration in February this year signed
the end of a 100 years long search for
gravitational radiation. I will review the
recent LIGO discoveries of gravitational
waves from binary black hole mergers
and in particular GW150914, the first
event involving two merging black holes
with about 30 solar masses each. I will
examine various implications of this
event. I will also discuss the possibility of
generating gravitational waves on Earth
and producing a Hertz like gravitational
wave experiment in the distant future.
