Abstract:
Antiferromagnets are magnetic systems in which spins tend to align in opposite directions to their neighbors.  The pattern of the resulting order depends in detail on the geometry of the underlying crystal lattice of the spins.  In particular, one naively expects lattice melting to automatically lead to the destruction of antiferromagnetic order.   In this colloquium, I will discuss one scenario in which antiferromagnetism survives, even after the crystal lattice has been molten.
