Abstract:
In aggregation, clusters merge irreversibly and eventually form a single cluster. In this talk I'll
discuss an exception from this rule when the system ens up in a non-trivial jammed state. Speci-cally, I consider an aggregation process in which clusters are rectangles that can merge if they have compatible length or height. In this process, the nal number of aggregates grows algebraically with system size and rectangles with xed thickness contain a nite fraction of the total area; these
area fractions decay algebraically with thickness. I'll also outline the properties of jammed states
in a complimentary fragmentation process.
