Abstract:

Diffusion Limited Aggregation (DLA) is a model of fractal growth patterns in Nature, which has been topical since its invention in the 1970's. While numerical results strongly indicate that in d dimensions this model results in a fractal cluster whose dimension D is smaller than d, so far there has been no proof of this. I will review the model, and explain the method of iterated conformal maps which provides a sound mathematical basis for its discussion. I will finally announce exact results for DLA grown on a fiber embedded in two-dimensions, for which one can prove an exact result D=3/2.
