Joint Nonlinear Bio Physics seminar: "Force sensing and regulation in biological systems – from cells and tissues to bioinspired solutions"

Date:
Wed, 02/11/202212:00-13:30
Location:
Danciger B Building, Seminar room
Lecturer: Prof. Megan Valentine from UCSB
Abstract:

Biological materials have remarkable abilities to sense, respond, adapt and move.  Their ability to generate and regulate forces underpin these essential features and understanding how cells accomplish these complex tasks across scales from molecular to macroscopic could unlock tremendous potential for solving engineering challenges. In this talk I will describe my group’s recent work in understanding force sensing and mechanobiology in vascular and connective tissues, as well as new efforts to translate cellular mechanisms to soft manmade materials.
