Abstract:
This talk will be a basic talk that should
be accessible to students with a basic
knowledge of QFT and string theory. I
will start by reviewing the AdS/CFT
correspondence, and how it allows us to
study QFTs on anti-de Sitter space by a
new method called "Rigid holography". I
will then review six dimensional
maximally superconformal theories and
their compactifications. Then I will put
the two together, and show how the
AdS/CFT correspondence can be used
to study six dimensional theories on five
dimensional anti-de Sitter space times a
circle. Using recently discovered
features of four dimensional N=2
SCFTs, I will show that these six
dimensional theories show some
surprising properties, and lead to a
novel type of duality.
