Title: Hadronic signatures in energetic GRBs and implications for GRB 221009A
Abstract: Due to the large amounts of energies they release, Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) have been proposed as possible sources for Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs). This paradigm is challenged by the absence of high-energy neutrinos that could be associated with known GRBs. In this talk I will focus on the sub-class of energetic GRBs with emitted isotropic energies greater than 1.e54 ergs for which a moderate baryonic loading may suffice to power the UHECR energy flux. The prompt phase of these events is modelled in the internal shock model, accounting for different emission regions along the jet and computing self-consistently the evolution of hadrons, leptons, photons and neutrinos. This framework allows to examine neutrino and photon signatures introduced by co-accelerated hadrons and review the maximum baryonic loading compatible with observations. Finally, I will discuss the implications for the recently detected GRB 221009A, an extremely energetic and close-by GRB.
