Title:Photon-dominated regions in the interstellar medium and surface chemistry
Abstract:
Photon Dominated regions (PDRs) where the stellar ultraviolet radiation heats the ambient gas, affects its thermal balance and chemistry, and partly dissociates the molecular gas, allow to study the radiative feedback from massive stars on molecular clouds.
I will review the main features of the publicly available Meudon PDR code (http://pdr.obspm.fr/) who solves the chemical and thermal balance of a stationnary plane parallel slab of gas and dust submitted to a UV radiation field from one or both sides of the cloud.
Particular emphasis will be put on recent attempts to include surface processes which are also likely to take place and offer a challenging possibility to reconcile observations and model predictions.
