Abstract:
In this talk I will review the concept of naturalness, or fine-tuning, in particle physics. After a brief discussion of the directions this paradigm has led theoretical research in the past, I will review a recent change of direction, where theorists who face this question are now increasingly looking towards cosmology for answers. I will cover a recent “Relaxion” idea by other authors, which arguably catalysed this change of direction, and then discuss very recent research which connects cosmology with critical phenomena in particle physics.
