Abstract:
Could UHECRs originate from gamma-ray
bursts? To explore that very question, we
performed numerical calculations of UHECRs
accelerated at GRB internal shocks, taking into
account all the relevant energy loss mechanisms.
For various choices of the GRB parameters, we
calculated the spectrum of cosmic rays escaping
from the GRB environment as well as secondary
particles produced either during the acceleration
or extragalactic propagation. I will discuss the
assumptions under which the extragalactic GRB
model is able to reproduce the UHECR data on
the energy spectrum and composition, and show
the consequences of this model on the
interpretation of the Galactic-to-extragalactic
cosmic ray transition. I will also discuss the
impact of the Galactic and extragalactic
magnetic fields on the expected anisotropy
levels.
