Title: Gamma ray emission from middle aged supernova remnants
Abstract: Recent observations from space-based GeV observatories and ground-based TeV observatories reveal gamma-ray emission from several middle aged SNRs interacting with molecular clouds (MC). The characteristic pion bump signature identified in SNRs IC 443 and W44 provides intriguing evidences for accelerated protons in SNRs, making them unique objects for understanding CR acceleration in SNRs. Two scenarios have been proposed to explain the observed gamma ray emission according to the observed MC association. One is the escaping scenario which focus on the particles escaped from the remnant and the other is the direct interaction scenario which focus on the particles accelerated at the remnant. I will discuss about the two scenarios and some challenges in current modeling.
