Thesis Talk:
I will give an outline of my Phd thesis.
The first part will be about asteroid dynamics. The rotation state of asteroids is affected by mutual collisions among asteroids as well as from radiation pressure from the sun (the YORP effect). I will provide a model for the evolution of asteroids spin states by collisions and radiation effects and compare it to current planet formation theories. Moreover, I will show the effect of solar radiation on the dynamics of binary asteroids.
The second part will introduce the RICH moving mesh hydro code. Recently, a new type of Voronoi based moving mesh hydro codes have been used in astrophysics and cosmology (AREPO, TESS). I will introduce our open source version, RICH, and discuss the benefits and pitfalls of using Voronoi based moving mesh hydro codes, as well as show preliminary results using the RICH code with regards to the G2 galactic cloud.
