Title: Interaction of stellar explosions with moderately optically thick circumstellar media

Abstract: Some stellar explosions are powered by interaction with the circumstellar material (CSM). The interaction leads to the formation of a system where the interplay between different physical processes leads to a complex phase space, which is characterized by rich and diverse observational signatures (depending on the location in the phase space). In my talk, I will provide a general overview of the relevant processes and describe some parts of the phase space, where the Thomson optical depth is moderate. I will show that the observational signatures of interaction are broader than previously thought. I will focus on properties of soft and hard X-ray emission and on the ratio between X-ray and optical/UV  photons. I will apply our results to the recent SN 2023ixf and to the archetype of the puzzling luminous fast blue optical transients (LFBOTS), AT2018cow.
