Evolution of dust abundance in galaxy and cosmological simulations
Dust enrichment is one of the most important aspects of galaxy evolution. The evolution of dust is tightly coupled with the nonlinear evolution of the ISM, including star formation and stellar feedback, which drive the chemical enrichment in a galaxy. Hydrodynamical simulations provide a powerful approach to study such nonlinear processes. We implement a dust enrichment model into hydrodynamic simulation code GADGET3 taking into account of the evolution of dust size distribution. The dust model not only includes the generation and destruction by stars but also accretion, coagulation and shattering in the ISM. In the isolated galaxy simulation, I will show the evolution of dust-to-gas ratio, grain size distribution and extinction curve. The cosmological simulation allows us to examine the dust mass function and various scaling relation between dust properties and galaxy properties. I also show that our simulations broadly reproduces the Milky Way and nearby Universe observations.
