Assaf Horesh

 
 

I am a faculty member at the Racah Institute of Physics in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. I am currently also a member of the Israel Center of Research Excellence (I-Core) “Origins: From the Big Bang to Planets”.

I am an experimental astrophysicist with a focus on radio and optical astronomy. My current main research interests include: Time domain astronomy, Supernovae, Tidal disruption events, Gamma ray bursts, Gravitational wave EM counterparts and new classes of transients. In the past  I used to work in the field of strong gravitational lensing in galaxy clusters.

Formerly, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) under the supervision of Prof. Shri Kulkarni and at the Weizmann Institute of Science under the supervision of Prof. Avishay Gal-Yam. In 2011, I graduated from Tel-Aviv University, under the supervision of Prof. Dan Maoz.
